January 3 Zanzibar

I am sitting in airport, on a 3 hour delay... and wifi is pretty good so getting some blogs up to date!

I am so lucky....security guard had hot water ready for me to have coffee....amazing that even after 2 weeks, they remember!

I met an Australian girl, from Tasmania actually, that just arrived after a 48 hour trip! She is here to teach English for a month. We talked a lot and I invited her to join me in meeting Alvaro and Claudia for coffee in Stone Town. We just had to have 1 last coffee together! We had coffee and then we headed to the small restaurant along the beach. The food was excellent and the breeze and view amazing! Many meals are only $5... including seafood. I had a seafood curry, specially made for me that included prawns, octopus, calamari, and kingfish! It was the best curry I have had here! The others were not disappointed either!
farewell shot of Zanzibar

With Alvaro and Claudia off in a taxi to the ferry port, the Australian and I headed off to walk around. Me playing tour guide! So much experience! ahhahahah We walked around the coast, past all the little food/coffee shops along the sea wall and ended up back at the bus station. She caught the bus back and I headed back to the sea wall! I can not believe it... after all the walking around and getting lost the first time here, I have now found all the short cuts and more direct routes! Too funny!

Back to the seawall for a coffee and then to the small restaurant, again! She had recommended lime juice with mint, so I had to try it! Very good....refreshing! I then had the kingfish in coconut sauce. Again excellent. They have not overcooked the fish which really helps.

I headed back to the hotel. Sitting outside I ended up talking to a Swiss guy for about 1 hour! He had just spent 3 weeks here, traveling around to different spots. They even went to an island that has only 6 bungalows. Wow what a great place, it would be very quiet! He had just spent 6 weeks in Cape Town going to English school!

January 2 2016 Zanzibar

Had breakfast and got packed and ready to go. Alvaro and Claudia came over to say good bye. So nice! But we went for coffee at the local hotel, and something to eat. The regular lady was not there. I guess she actually got a day off, I do not think she has missed a day!

Uneventful ride into the city. I got dropped off and able to check into hotel room. Same girl at front desk, but there was a new guy. "my friend" the security guard had a good hand shake and hug for me! A nice welcome. Relaxed a bit and then headed into Stone Town. I walked down the street for a bit and then cut through some bushes to the beach. I walked along the beach for about 1 hour. Very nice. Many boats tied up, a few fisherman cleaning fish, kids playing soccer, swimming and even a couple of joggers! I arrived at the restaurant along the beach that we ate in the first full day we were here!

I walked along the street to Stone Town cafe for a coffee, as it was recommended by the young couple in Nungwi.
Dinner at the local cafeteria. 6500 shillings, or about $5 for rice, potato in sauce, and some greens and a soft drink! Not bad... but just not the same as having dinner on the beach and digging your bare feet into the sand!
Back to hotel, and since wifi not to bad, I just sat outside and watched a movie!
